In the second semester of 2025, the Secretariat of Intercultural Bilingual Education – Ethnoeducation (SEIBE), in coordination with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and with the technical support of the Fundación de Apoyo al Desarrollo Sustentable del Ecuador FADSE, implemented a pedagogical support process aimed at educators of the A’i Cofán people, located in the province of Sucumbíos.
The initiative aims to strengthen early childhood development through the application of the Intercultural Bilingual Education Model (MOSEIB), using the “Saberes del Ceibo” Pedagogical Methodology, complemented by a kit of playful materials that promote meaningful and culturally relevant learning.
The FADSE technical team, composed of Lucina Mazaquiza, Wilson Criollo, and Karina Delgado, provides support to teachers from four Intercultural Bilingual Community Education Centers (CECIB):
- Dureno Central: UECIB G-L Guillermo Quenama
- Centro Ůkavati: CECIB Mañone
- Centro Pisure Kankhe: CECIB Los Laureles
- Centro Upiritu: CECIB Ciansaje
As part of the process, a pre-assessment of children’s learning was conducted through an initial diagnosis, using techniques such as participatory observation and direct participation in playful activities, oral stories, songs, puppet theater, and participation in the community. Information was collected from three groups of informants: teachers, mothers and fathers, and children between 3 and 12 years of age belonging to the four educational centers. As a final step, a post-assessment will be conducted to evaluate the progress achieved.
